Born in northern France into a family of musicians, Bastien Famelart developed an early appreciation for craftsmanship in the kitchen of his grandmother, where his passion for food first took root.

Though his professional journey began in the music industry as a touring bassplayer musician and teacher. Touring across France allowed him to explore the country’s rich culinary heritage, sparking a deep fascination with cheese and dairy products. After a decade in music, he decided to turn this passion into a profession.

Settled in Chambéry since his early twenties, at the crossroads of the French Alps and Jura mountains, he easily immersed himself in the cheese world, learning from experienced cheesemongers, producers, and refiners. To formalize his expertise, he obtained a Professional Qualification Certificate from IFOPCA / CIFCA in Paris before working as a dedicated cheesemonger in the capital.

Driven by curiosity and a desire to innovate and think outside of the box, he stepped beyond his comfort zone, moving to Shanghai, China, where he spent 4 years expanding and develop his expertise on asians and international markets. He earned the local nickname "The Cheesemonger of China," in reference to being the first French cheesemonger to settle there permanently for such an extended period. In 2025, he relocated to Tokyo, Japan, where he still live today.

Today, as a cheesemonger, trainer and consultant, Bastien specializes in product knowledge, technical training, and advising businesses on Western dairy products resources.
